Healers that work with erotically marginalized clients report feelings of isolation and being “the only one” and are often erotically marginalized themselves.  One way that professionals can ease those feelings is to build a community of colleagues who also work with the erotically marginalized (Constantinides, Sennott, & Chandler, 2019).

Join other sexual health professionals virtually to network, connect, and for a 1 hour AASECT and Texas Ethics CE on “Understanding and Working with Erotic Transference and Counter Transference”.  In a 2022 research study ((Vesentini, Van Overmeire, Matthys, De Wachter, Van Puyenbroeck, & Bilsen),

70.6% of therapists who responded shared that they had been sexually attracted to a client.  Many therapists feel unprepared to deal with erotic transference/countertransference issues. This 1 hr. Ethics CE will define and provide ethical ways to respond to erotic transference/ countertransference. There will  be small group time to share experiences of erotic transference/countertransference and identify professionals in our community that can support therapists experiencing erotic transference/countertransference with clients.

There will also be an optional additional 30 minutes to stay on and network with other sexual health professionals after the topical discussion.

Finances and sex have always been distinctly linked. Financial Therapy Journal articles on financial betrayal and infidelity (Wery & Kothakota, 2022), sexual satisfaction (Saxey et al., 2021), sex and sexuality, and the relationship between finances and sex (Hill et al., 2017) have explored how these two areas can be deeply intertwined.

Generally, presentations and articles that specifically address the relationship between sex, money, and power include conversations around cisgender, monogamous relationships and are not inclusive of other Gender, Sexual, Erotic, or Relational Diversity (GSERD).

An erotically and relationally diverse topic that is not well known to therapists, financial therapists, and other helping professionals that is unique to the relationship between sex, money, and power is around financial kinks and Financial Domination/submission.

Financial Domination/submission is defined as a power exchange relationship that includes money and the financial as a way to dominate another and for the other, as a way to submit to the power and control of a more dominant other.

While some Financial Domination can be categorized as sex work, much of Financial Domination/ submission appears to be related to obsessive and compulsive behavior around money and the erotic, playing with concepts of: humiliation, degradation, power exchange, worship, pleasure, surrender, submission, relinquishing control and power. It even can appear like gambling or playing a game with money involved.

This 1 hr. Ethics CE will define and provide ethical ways to respond to Financial Dominance and Financial Kink. There will  be small group time to share experiences and identify professionals in our community that can support therapists experiencing Financial Dominance and Financial Kink with clients.

There will be an optional additional 30 minutes to stay on and network with other sexual health professionals after the topical discussion.
