AASECT Meet & Greet CE and Networking
Build a Community of Colleagues and Ethics CE:
“FinDomme and Financial Kinks: Understanding and Working Ethically with Erotic Diversity and Financial Power Exchange"
1 AASECT CE* and 1 Maine, New Hampshire, Texas MFT ETHICS CE
Sex, money, and power is a familiar triad to sex educators, counselors, and therapists, but most of the information and research out there on the relationship between the three are based on cisgender, heterosexual, and monogamous relationships and are often not not inclusive of other Gender, Sexual, Erotic, or Relational Diversity (GSERD).
A very niche and somewhat underground erotic diversity includes financial kinks and financial domination (FinDomme for short). Financial kinks are any type of kinky behavior that includes finances as a part of the behavior.
Financial Domination/submission is defined as a power exchange relationship that includes money and the financial as a way to dominate another and for the other, as a way to submit to the power and control of a more dominant other. While some Financial Domination can be categorized as sex work, much of Financial Domination/submission appears to be related to obsessive and compulsive behavior around money and the erotic, playing with concepts of humiliation, degradation, power exchange, worship, pleasure, surrender, submission, and relinquishing control and power. It even can appear like gambling or playing a game with money involved and often largely involves social media, such as Twitter, to engage with and play.
This presentation will share definitions and concepts related to Financial Kinks and Financial Domination and present and discuss the little known world of financial kinks and domination.
This 1 hr. Ethics CE will define and provide ethical ways to respond to Financial Dominance and Financial Kink. There will be small group time to share experiences and identify professionals in our community that can support therapists experiencing Financial Dominance and Financial Kink with clients.
There will be an optional additional 30 minutes to stay on and network with other sexual health professionals after the topical discussion.
